Week 46: AM I QUALIFIED?
So
I wanted you to know something. It’s ok to not look like you have it all
figured out. Yup. Don’t have the pedigree, the training, the experience? Don’t think that disqualifies you.
Have
you heard the Lord doesn’t call the qualified; He qualifies the called? Well, my wife and I were talking to our
pastors recently about qualifying. And it really got me thinking. How does the
Lord qualify those he calls anyway? The
answer might surprise you, but I think it’s humility.
How
did he qualify Joseph before he was in charge of all of Egypt? Thrown in a pit, sold into slavery, two times
in prison, once falsely accused. How about Moses whom he called to set an
entire nation free? After living in the
palace all his life, God sent him to the desert for 40 years to tend
sheep. How’s that for demotion? Even Jesus, the God man, IMMEDIATELY after
Father spoke his delight over him at his baptism, went into the wilderness for
40 days to be tested before beginning his ministry that changed the world.
Why
do we forget that in the midst of pursuing the calling and promises God has for
us? We may feel like we aren’t able,
that we don’t have what it takes, or that maybe we’ve missed God’s directive.
No, friend. The truth is that you are the apple of our Dad’s eye. He has a call
on your life. And to embrace that will require some pain. Some demotion. Some
roads that seem to lead away from the promise. Embrace the path of humility.
Learn to lean on him. Go low and go slow. And wait for Him to do what only he
can do!
“So
humble yourselves under the mighty power of God, and at the right time he will
lift you up in honor.”
