Week 14: OUT OF BARRENNESS
One
of the things that amazes me about God is how He presses on us. He wants to see
what’s inside our heart.
Think
about barrenness. I was reading this
morning of the birth of Samson, and I was struck by the fact that his mother
was barren. This is certainly not
uncommon – woven throughout scripture is a theme of barrenness preceding blessing. Look at the fathers of the nation of Israel –
Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. Sound familiar? Now look at their wives – Sarah, Rebekah, and
Rachel. All three of them were
barren. And THIS is how God chose to
start a nation!!!
But
it didn’t stop with empty wombs. There
is also a nothingness that seems to precede prosperity. Remember Jacob: before he had any children, he left his
homeland with NOTHING (I mean he slept with a rock for a pillow!). He returned with 12 sons who became the 12
tribes of a mighty nation bearing his new name – Israel.
God’s
purpose for barrenness and nothingness remains the same today. I hear Him beckon for us to lean into the
pain of an unfilled promise and ask for the blessing! But it’s not for us to hold, friend. No, it is for the generations after us as an
inheritance.
Special
Focus: Pray with us that out of barrenness,
we would see God make new life that is a blessing for future generations.
